Capt. Ryan enlisted in the U.S. Navy in 2001 and attained his certification to become a Unmanned Submersible Pilot. He was stationed onboard a Coastal Mine Hunter for the majority of his service time. When not piloting submersibles, he was the ships primary Small Boat Operator. This responsibility required completing many hours of boat transfers while underway as well as patrol while the ship was in Port. He did extensive training on everything from Boat Operator to Radar Navigation to Advanced Shipboard Fire Fighting. Capt. Ryan's experience offshore spans many years making him a confident Captain in all water conditions.

Capt. Ryan grew up on the Delaware River/Bay. As a teen he spent his summers boating and operating other owner's vessels so they could enjoy the day on the water. He currently enjoys boating with his family on his 37' Silverton. As both active duty and a civilian, Capt. Ryan has over 20 years of experience on multiple oceans of the world where he mastered offshore navigation and piloting submersibles. He attended the Annapolis School of Seamanship where he obtained his 100 Ton Master Certification and Towing Endorsement. Ryan is an active member of CAPCA (Chesapeake Area Professional Captains Association) as well as the Fleet Reserve Association. With his towing endorsement, Capt. Ryan frequently finds himself on the water assisting boaters as a Tow Capitan.

For almost 2 decades Capt. Ryan has been a volunteer fire fighter for his local Fire Company. He is a certified driver on multiple pieces of equipment which requires additional rigorous training. As the driver, Capt. Ryan is fully responsible for operating the pump and maintaining gauges to ensure there is sufficient water supply on the fire scene. Capt. Ryan served as the Fire Sergeant responsible for all of the Company's breathing apparatus. He has also been elected and served on the Board of Directors making strides for the betterment of the Company.
